Nintendo have lifted the lid on the future of the Switch’s online service & it’s a little underwhelming to be honest. Price-wise the subscription plan actually looks good at £3.49 / $3.99 a month, £6.99 / $7.99 for 3 month, £17.99 / $19.99 for 12 or a family plan priced at £31.49 / $34.99 which also spans 12 month, as well as allowing up to 8 Switchs access to the net, however what you actually get for your cash is less encouraging given the very basic features on offer, namely cloud saves, access to multiplayer modes in the likes of Mario Kart, digital discounts & the option to download a number of NES titles, 20 in total, with other titles from other Nintendo platforms possibly making a future appearance.
All of which is fine, but none of which really helps the Switch to stand out from other online subscription plans. Nintendo will now need to ensure titles like Smash Bros. offer the best online play possible cause it’s games that will drive this service.
