E3 2016.

E3Sony

When people choose the “winners “of E3 every year they do so on varied criteria, I personally judge it on one, which conference would convince me most to go out and spend my money on a new console. Now I already own a PC, PS4, XOne, Vita, 3DS and Wii U, not to mention a whole slew of older generation machines, so this is little more than a hypothetical conundrum but it’s one I find none the less works and this year there was one clear winner of E3 2016, Sony.
Sony “won” this year’s E3 plain and simply cause they showed off same stunning games, God of War, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Resident Evil 7 and Spider-Man to name a few. Microsoft showed off a number of eye catching titles too, We Happy Few for instance looked wonderful however far too much of what Microsoft showed this year was predictable. Gears of War looked like another Gears of War, Forza Horizon 3 like more Forza meanwhile the likes of Scalebound and Recore failed to really impress unlike say, the Resident Evil 7 or Death Stranding trailers did. As good as they were though Sony’s conference wasn’t faultless, the Crash Bandicoot announcement, while welcome lacked any real substance at all meanwhile the decision to dedicate a sizeable chunk of their conference to VR, something many gamers see as a fad didn’t put a smile on everyone’s face, much in the same way the XBox One S and mysterious Xbox Scorpio announcements failed to. Those eagled eyed among you might by now be wonder why I’ve not mentioned Nintendo’s part in all this and that’s really cause Nintendo didn’t play much of a part in this year’s E3 at all. They did keep their word though, no new big name games, no NX talk, no nothing but a long winded play though of Pokemon and then The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and yes, it was as exciting as that sounds but that’s a bit how E3 2016 felt outside of Sony’s conference, by the numbers.

  1. Great choices! Ever Oasis was a nice surprise for 3DS for sure. And what else could have won Wii U besides Zelda? God of War was certainly an impressive showing and great opener for Sony’s conference. I’m not sure how I feel about We Happy Few yet, but it certainly is intriguing in a creepy way. I feel bad about this, but I wasn’t even aware Vita had a presence at E3, haha.

    1. We happy Few was jarring but that’s what grabbed me. It really was unlike anything else at the show this year. And yeah the Vita was barely represented but I don’t think there were many people expecting any different. Pity as its a nice little handheld.
