Dead Space Not Quite Dead Yet.

The Dead Space series not only managed to carve out for itself a hefty fan following last gen but one which, despite the change in direction the series’ third outing took, largely remains and yet EA had no news related to Dead Space at all during E3 leaving many of the game’s fans convinced that the Dead Space franchise is as dead as the beastly Necromorphs Isaac has been dismantling since 2008. EA Studios executive vice president Patrick Söderlund however has since offered Dead Space fans a glimmer of hope as he suggests the series will return, someday.
“We want to get the game teams to work on the things they want to work on themselves. There’s an incredible amount of enthusiasm over Hardline and the Star Wars game at Visceral. Do I think that we will create a Dead Space game again? Yes, I think so. But when we do so, we have to think about what made the previous ones successful and how we go about envisioning Dead Space for a new generation. Now, I’m not announcing a Dead Space game, we’re not building one just to be very clear, but I’m saying is there an opportunity or possibility to do one in the future? Absolutely.”

  1. I wonder what kind of chance this series has now that EA has Visceral working on Star Wars and Battlefield. My impression was that it was never a poor selling series, but that it could never reach the loft heights of Battlefield. Seems like this is the trend nowadays, amongst big publishers smaller series are being pushed out of the way so that more studios can be making spinoffs of the big franchises.

    1. If I had to put money on it I’d bet we’ll see a Dead Space title at some point this gen, however unless it sells huge amounts I don’t believe EA will keep the series going far beyond that simply because and as you said its just not a big enough money maker for EA to care all that much about. Shame really because the first two games and the Wii effort were pretty good.
