Code Name S.T.E.A.M.

E3 2014

So far this year’s E3 has been a disappointing one for all handheld owners with both Sony and Nintendo choosing to focus much of their attention on the PS4 and Wii U instead of the PS Vita or 3DS. In the case of the 3DS though a glimmer of light has emerged in the form of Intelligent Systems’ newest turn-based strategy dubbed Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. Set to launch next year Code Name: S.T.E.A.M (Strike Team Eliminating The Alien Menace) is a cel-shaded, steampunk affair heavily influenced by the Silver Age of comics and set in a Victorian London. The game itself will see players tasked, by Abraham Lincoln no less, with fending off an alien invasion à la X-Com.
New IPs don’t come out of Nintendo all that often these days and that goes double for turn based strategies so its great to see the masters of the genres bringing us something new and a little off the wall by the sounds of it.

Code Name S.T.E.A.M.

  1. While reading the gameplay, STEAM actually looks interesting. I just need to see a video as to “how” it plays. We’ve been treated with maps for almost every main tactical RPGs out there, so creating something like this, with no map at all – plus an interesting concept might actually be worth looking into.

  2. From what I’ve seen it plays a lot like the Valkyria Chronicles games which were outstanding on both the PS3 and PSP so unsurprisingly I have high hopes for Code Name S.T.E.A.M but I’m looking forward most of all to seeing what Intelligent System will bring to the SRPG genre this time around. Definitely one of my E3 highlights.
