50 EA Titles Going Offline.

When news came down the line that GameSpy would be shutting off all of it’s internet servers come May 31st, gamers and games companies around the world alike immediately began looking into what could possibly be done to keep the hundreds of titles which rely on GameSpy to get online, online. For some companies the answer to that conundrum has been to do nothing; Nintendo for instance who used GameSpy to power the likes of Mario Kart Wii, Animal Crossing City Folk and Pokémon Diamond and Pearl have decided to terminate all Wii and DS online severs come May 20th while 2K will move many of their PC games (Borderlands, Civilization 3 and Civilization 4) over to the Steamworks servers while abandoning a number of others including the PS3 versions of Borderlands and Civilization Revolution. EA are the latest games publisher to outline their plans for GameSpy’s closure and if you’re a fan of Crysis, Battlefield, Star Wars Battlefront or any of the other 47 titles listed below bad news, they’re coming off-line.
“Since GameSpy’s announcement, our teams have been working to evaluate options to keep services up and running. Unfortunately, due to technical challenges and concerns about the player experience, we do not have a solution at this time. Online services for EA games on the GameSpy platform will be closed down at the end of June,” the publisher wrote in a statement before continuing. “We know some of these games are still fan favorites, including Battlefield 2, Battlefield 1942, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and Command & Conquer games. We are still investigating community-supported options to preserve online functionality for these titles, such as multiplayer. Significant technical hurdles remain, and at this time we don’t have anything to announce.”

  1. I feel bad for fans of these games. The appeal for many of those titles is the online multiplayer.

    1. While it is indeed sad for all the players of the games on this list it’s Wii and DS owners I really feel for, they being the biggest losers in all of this.
