Swapnote Suspended.

NewsV1

Fans of the 3DS’ Swapnote or Letter Box service will have found since yesterday an inability to send either their usual pictures or messages. Initially this was thought to be a temporary technical issue but Nintendo have now confirmed that, until further notice the Swapnote service has been suspended due to ‘offensive material.’ Here is their full statement.
“Nintendo has learned that some consumers, including minors, have been exchanging their friend codes on Internet bulletin boards and then using Swapnote to exchange offensive material. Nintendo always wants to provide a positive experience for all consumers and limit the risk of any inappropriate activity or misuse of a service. We feel it is important on this occasion to take this action.”
While some may sympathise with Nintendo’s decision to suspend Swapnote the vast majority are already asking what sort of world Nintendo live in where giving people access to an application which allows them to drew or write anything you like doesn’t lead to the odd offensive image or two? Penalizing the entire community because of the actions of a few seems at best a monumental overreaction and at worse down right wrong.
