New Update For The Wii U.

Nintendo’s latest firmware update for the Wii U will introduce the ability to play Wii games on the Wii U Gamepad. It should be noted however that although Wii games will indeed become playable on the Wii U controller’s screen the controller itself can not be used as a control, a wii remote and nunchuck are still required. The update will also streamline the Wii U’s Web browser, add the ability to automatically download recommended software and demos from the eShop and enable USB keyboard support.

  1. I haven’t updated my Wii U yet to check it out, but how does this work? Does it still require a sensor bar and aiming the Wiimotes at the actual TV instead of the control pad? I tend to use a Classic Controller Pro given the chance, but most of the first party games require some use of the Wiimote.

  2. You simply use the Wii U controller as you would a TV, it has a sensor bar built in so you point and play. I’ve found It works a lot better with games (Smash Bros, Xenoblade and the like) compatible with the Classic Controller. Stuff like Skyward Sword and Wii Sports are a little too fiddly.

  3. It’s a nice idea. I’m not sure I’d use it, but it’s another example of Nintendo doing the oddest things.
