Japanese Indie Games, Not On The Wii U.

When Nintendo announced the Wii U they made one thing above all else clear, indie developers of all shapes and sizes would be more than welcome to make games for the new console, and they’ve stuck by that with many high profiled indies praising Nintendo’s new attitude towards them. However should you so happen the be an indie developer based in Japan things are a touch different as Nintendo simply won’t license you at all.
“The policy in question is the decision of Nintendo’s department responsible for licensing activities in each region, and the licensing department of Nintendo is currently not accepting subject applications from individuals in Japan.”
Stated Nintendo when quizzed on the subject of why there’s yet to be any Japanese indie games on the Wii U. So what is keeping Japanese indie games off the Wii U? Well that’s up for debate (some claim it’s to do with trading laws in Japan while others blame corporate culture) but with the likes of Sony counting indies from all four corners of the globe, Nintendo would do well to at least match if not try and out do their rivals in this field.
